This program provides support for serial ports through the so-called
block drivers. It relies on the presence of !SerialDev in your
!Boot.Resources directory and allows all currently active serial ports
to be monitored. Block drivers are available for a wide range of serial
ports, including the computer's internal RS232 port(s), additional ports
on Podules or other expansion cards, and through USB-to-Serial adapters.
Over the years, a range of block drivers have been created by various
parties, that are distributed in !SerialDev. The application !Serial
allows you to manage which block drivers are visible to the user and
which are hidden (inactive).
!Serial has several windows, each of which can be accessed from the
program's iconbar menu. The following windows are present:
|
- Ports
This window shows the serial ports that are currently active.
In most cases, this will be restricted to just one port, but if
your computer has access to multiple serial ports, e.g. through USB,
multiple ports can be active simultaneously.
Click the coloured header to reveal more information, or click MENU
for further options.
- Drivers
This window has a green header and shows which BlockDrivers are currently
installed on your computer. Click the coloured header to reveal additional
information. Double-click a driver to view its properties. This will also
reveal additional information about the port(s) offered by the interface.
Unwanted drivers can be removed by opening the menu and selecting 'Remove driver'.
- Install
Previously removed drivers and be (re)installed by opening the 'Install' window
and double clicking the desired driver.
