Monitor window

When exploring a new keyboard, you might want to see what kind of key codes it produces, without assigning a function to each key immediately. The Monitor window shown here will help you to understand the meaning of the special keys. The Monitor window can be opened in the following ways: From the iconbar menu, select Keyboard -> Monitor. From the Keyboard window menu, select Display -> Monitor. Clicking the iconbar icon (option, set in Choices...).

The Monitor window is quite similar to the top half of the Edit key window. It consists of two parts. The upper part explains how the KeyCode is build, whilst the lower part tells you to which Device the key belongs and at what physical Port the device is connected. More detailed information about the KeyCode, the DeviceID and the PortID can be found in the description of the Edit key window.

Please read this Whilst the Monitor window is open, there will be no pop-up window whenever a new (and currently unassigned) key is pressed. This way you can explore the keyboard without a dialogue window popping-up for each key you press. If you want a pop-up box to appear, you need to close the Monitor window prior to pressing the key.
